On October 9, 2025, Nventure, in collaboration with the Northumberland Manufacturers' Association, officially launched Vfactory at the Venture13 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Centre in Cobourg. The event marked the introduction of Canada’s first virtual reality platform designed to support recruitment, onboarding and retention in the manufacturing sector.
The launch brought together manufacturers, educators, workforce partners and community leaders for a first look at how immersive technology is being applied to one of the sector’s most persistent challenges. High turnover, particularly in the early stages of employment, continues to impact productivity, increase costs and strain teams. Vfactory was developed in direct response to this challenge, offering a new way to better prepare individuals before they ever step onto the shop floor.
At the core of Vfactory is a simple but powerful shift. Instead of introducing workplace realities after hiring, the platform brings those experiences forward. Through immersive simulations, participants are exposed to key elements of manufacturing environments, including equipment, workflows, safety practices and conditions such as noise and repetition. This early exposure helps individuals build awareness and confidence while gaining a clearer understanding of what the work involves.
The result is a more informed workforce and a stronger alignment between candidates and employers. By setting expectations early, Vfactory supports more confident decision-making on both sides, contributing to improved retention and a more stable workforce over time.
The platform has been developed through close collaboration with industry and education partners to ensure it reflects real-world conditions and evolving workforce needs. Local manufacturers, along with high schools, colleges and universities, have played an active role in testing and refining the simulations. Following a competitive process, XpertVR was selected to lead development, bringing deep experience in immersive training across high-demand sectors.
The launch event offered attendees the opportunity to experience the simulations firsthand, moving beyond concept to demonstration. It also highlighted the broader investment in workforce development supported by Ontario’s Skills Development Fund, reinforcing the importance of innovative, industry-led solutions in strengthening the manufacturing sector.
